Hail knights and squires, maids and wenches, lords and ladies,
fairies and wizards!
It's time to gather at the Eastern Passage Community Garden and
celebrate the arrival of spring on Sunday, May 18. Faire o' the Green
will be presented by the Maritime Pagan Gathering Festival
Association in conjunction with the local pagan community. From 11
a.m. to 4 p.m. all are invited to gather for a variety of games and
activities including a Maypole dance, a labyrinth walk, and the
choosing of a Lord and Lady of the Green.
Organizers of this family-friendly event encourage people to dress up
in their favourite medieval or renaissance garb, don their best fairy
wings or wizard's hat. Local artisans and merchants will be on hand
offering everything from food to flowers, herbs, soap, Celtic-style
garb and various other crafts. Make a flower crown or participate in
the contests to choose a Lord and Lady of the Green. There will also
be a plant/seed swap – bring some extra seedlings from your garden,
label them, and pick up a couple someone else brought!
Faire o' the Green is meant for all – pagan or non-pagan. It's a
celebration of spring and a chance to dress up and get a little silly…
but behave, or you may find yourself in the stocks and the ridicule
of all!
If you are interested in obtaining a yearly
membership to the MPGFA, it's $50 for adults and $15 for youth. Those
signing up for a membership on or before the Faire will get a FREE
vintage AEPG T-shirt and mug and will be entered into a draw for a
gift basket! A 50-50 draw will be held to raise money for the MPGFA's
annual Avalon East Pagan Gathering, a three day festival slated for
this August in Maitland, Nova Scotia. For more information on the
MPGFA and the Avalon East Pagan Gathering please visit www.mpgfa.org
Table and space rentals for vendors are still available. It's $10 a
table, or $5 if you bring your own table. This is an outdoor event
entirely, so if you have a canopy or gazebo, feel free to bring it
along! Rain date is May 25.
This event promises to be much fun for all but we are in need of some
wandering minstrels, jolly jesters and other entertainers with
medieval flare! If you are interested in donating your talent to the
merrymaking and the welcoming of spring into our fair shire,
for vendor inquiries or answers to any questions about Faire o' the
Green or the MPGFA, please contact Linda Hulme Colin at 465-4087 or
email lhcolin@hfx.eastlink.ca
The Eastern Passage Community Garden is located beside the
Tallahassee Recreation Centre. Entrance to the Faire will be from the
parking lot
